My 3 Year Old

The end of April is filled with back to back birthdays in our family.  We celebrated three of these together.  My dad's came three days before Seth's who happens to be the same day as my sister's birthday.  With everyone home on Sunday we decided to do Seth's birthday a day early.  It was nice not having to wait until almost bedtime to celebrate the way we would have if we had waited until monday.

One of my favorite parts of the birthday weekend was getting this Edible Arrangement delivered for the birthday group.  Thanks Bruce!  It was perfect.

We spent a lot of time looking through kids cake books and online until Seth found the perfect cake.  He's really into construction trucks right now.  After much thought between a dump truck and an excavator he settled with the excavator cake.  While it's definitely not my best cake it was actually fairly easy to do.  The hard part was fight with the humidity.  It was warm and humid while I was making it so I was fighting with melting frosting (as you can tell around the windows).  Seth didn't care at all though.

I put the candles on the front part of the cake so the spit would be contained to one area as he blew out the candles.

Do you think he was enjoying his birthday? He is actually still wandering around singing happy birthday to himself even days after it's all over.

Yes, they still make the Lite Brite.  They do advertise it as flat screen now.  Thanks for the great idea Tara!

While the Lite Brite was exciting the trucks were the main focus.  Seth has been so busy in his sandbox playing with his new trucks.

Williamsburg

We decided we needed to get away as a family one last time before the baby came. Since we live so close to Williamsburg and love it there that was the place we decided to visit. It's nice because it's so close, but still feels like we're one a vacation. There is so much to do down there from the historic colonial things to eating and shopping. I know the boys won't remember it much, but at least they will have the pictures to remind them where they have been when they are studying all about colonial history.

There was a mini golf course at the place we were staying. They boys really wanted to play so one of the days we walked over and played. I guess it wasn't even close to proper mini golf, but the boys sure thought they were playing the right way.

Seth was very helpful. Everytime you hit the ball he would hurry over and make sure it went in.


I think the best part of the trip with the private "swimming pool" we had. It was actually a hot tub in the unit, but for a 2 and 5 year old it was a swimming pool. They would have been content swimming the whole time we were there.


Unfortunately I didn't get many good pictures past the beginning of Jamestown. Our charger for our camera was left in Maryland. The battery died a few pictures into visiting Jamestown. Fortunately Tade brought his cheap little camera so we had some sort of back up even it they weren't the best quality pictures.

Spider Park

During spring break we had some hot days. For the first week in April this is very strange. One of these days we went to what we call Spider Park. I think is was 85 degrees while we were there. The following day it was over 90. Record temperatures for Maryland in April. I found that pregnancy and heat do not go well together. The heat made me so sick. I don't know how ladies survive all summer in the heat.

This is the flying saucer. You spin it around while laying on it. Tade quickly learned standing is not the best thing when something is spinning.

Cherry Blossoms

This year we didn't have the time to make it downtown to see the cherry blossoms in DC. Plus the crowds down there seemed worse than ever so that also detracted from the desire to go. We are lucky enough to have a street down the road that is a canopy of cherry blossom trees. So Easter Sunday we headed out for pictures. They of course didn't turn out as good as last years pictures, but at least we tried.

Dying Easter Eggs

We did things a little backwards this Easter. We did Easter Sunday a week early. Then had our Easter egg hunt the day before Easter. Then the day after Easter we dyed Easter eggs. We weren't planning on using the dyed eggs for the actual hunt so dying them kept getting postpone due to watching conference and other things we had planned. So finally Monday afternoon we got around to the eggs.

Seth's attention span lasted long enough to dye two eggs.

Then he moved onto eating cake pops.

Tade spent a lot more time on his eggs. He wanted to put each color on every egg. He soon realized that doing that didn't make the eggs look too pretty. He soon toned it down to a couple colors per egg.

In the end he was happy with how they looked.

Easter Sunday, Kind Of

For Easter Sunday we had general conference so the whole Easter outfit thing didn't work out. Fortunately I realized this ahead of time. Last Sunday was our official Easter Sunday in church so that's when we dressed the boys up and took pictures. Thanks Grandma Wangberg for helping up have such cute Easter outfits year after year.

Easter Egg Hunt

Yesterday we had some friends over for our annual Easter egg hunt. It was a very successful hunt this year. In the end the kids had full baskets and full tummies. I couldn't have asked for more perfect weather. We have been blessed with some beautiful days this spring break and Easter time. Unfortunately I had my camera on some random setting so the gorgeous colors of the outdoors were captured in a more dull tone. Oh well, at least I have pictures.

While the kids enjoyed their candy the grown ups got to enjoy these adorable cake pops. Yeah you read right. They are pops with cake in the middle and boy are they yummy!
